You know that feeling, laying out in the sun all day, a sunkissed glow appearing on your skin, feeling all your worries disappear the minute that ocean breeze whips through your hair. How about racing across the burning sand, trying not to sear the bottoms of your feet? We all know nothing beats a scorching summer day at the beach… well, except these foils.
Meet our latest addition to the Norris family, Beach Bum! Inspired by these quintessential beach day experiences, this foil is here to bring a bit of sunshine to your salon while you’re freshening up your client’s highlights. After seeing Beach Bum, you’ll wonder who could resist becoming one.
When deciding how to represent these moments, we wanted to look back on our own experiences. In my case, I always think back to my sisters and I picking out our favourite bikinis, chucking on a pair of Havaianas (you can win a pair in our giveaway👀), and getting horribly burnt trying to achieve that perfect summer tan. (Sunburn so isn’t worth it, we should’ve just gotten a spray tan) I remember building sandcastles only to have them destroyed by the tide, walking along the shoreline in search of the best seashell, and indulging in way too many prawns at dinner. It’s memories like these that we think every Aussie can relate to.
Hand illustrated to look a little rough around the edges, these icons highlight the perfect imperfections of our Australian beaches. It wasn’t just our opinions and experiences that mattered, we wanted our staff in-store to have a say in what we created. As our design progressed, we encouraged the team to test our foil and contribute to the design process. Integral elements of Beach Bum, like the bucket and spade, came from asking our staff in-store what they believed were beach day essentials. Using their salon experience, we were able to see how the pattern would look folded in preparation for colour and after application. These check-ins were essential to creating the final pattern you see today, and we couldn’t have done it without the expertise of our amazing staff.
